A fairly deep, greenish-straw appearance. Right now, this is just on the knife edge where riesling turns from fresh appley fruit to petrolly minerality. You get the minerality initially with some nice petrolly notes, but then you notice the green apple notes in the background, and once they're apparent, they come more to the fore and develop some caramelly (think tarte tatin) notes. Hints of honeysuckle and vanilla too. Lovely palate: this is a good place right now. Some sweetness, but it's much more integrated and less obvious than on previous bottles. There's a nice roundness to the fruit and good balance all round. Very nicely drinkable.

11.5% This has fresh apples on the nose with a hint of caramel. Lovely, fresh, light attack. There’s a bit of a lesser Auslese character to this, but with an Austrian roundness to the fruit.

The Wines of New York State (LIWSF, London): 11.9% From the eastern side of Seneca Lake. This has an interesting nose with a fairly gentle riesling character. Nice palate, feeling somewhere between an Auslese and a Spätlese. Good balance. Very Good.
