  • Followed over the course of two evenings, this is more powerful than the norm for Goodfellow, yet also maintains the same precise balance as the other Pinot Noirs in the stable. It’s darker and fruitier, but has more structure to keep things in check. One the first night I detected a hint of vanilla, but by the second evening that had receded, replaced by an herbal and pine nuance that brought a savory level to the wine. Wish I had a couple more bottles in the cellar, as age seems necessary to tease out further complexity. Overall very happy with this, and glad to have some recent arrival Fir Crest from a subsequent vintage.

  • Really nice. Distinctive profile with fruit and floral notes. Med+ finish

  • Decanted 8hrs. As I was cooking some salmon last night in anticipation of this bottle, I saw Brians post below and I agree with the overall take away of being tight etc, but I think I enjoyed it a bit more overall perhaps. I too found it firm, but it seemed to emit complex albeit very short wave lengths that in due time should allow for a beautiful Pinot to unfold down the road. Dark raspberry or perhaps pomegranate seemed to describe the fruit spectrum with loads of baking spices and cleansing acidity. Needs time of coarse but if you have a few, worth a nearly peak.

  • -- popped and poured on Day 1; tasted again on Day 2 @ 30 hr. mark; revisited on Days 3 and 5, too --
-- tasted blind alongside 2 other Goodfellow Pinots ('18 Fir Crest & '15 Fir Crest); this was labelled as wine #1 --

NOSE: Day 1: tight & red-fruited; crystalline, ripe, dark red fruits – black cherry; hint of Tabac cologne. Day 2: some diesel; resin; red currant/pomegranate. Day 3: ripe, red fruits; ripe florals. Day 5: Ry Krisp crackers and a hint of oxidation.

BODY: garnet color of shallow depth (exact same as '18 Fir Crest; lighter than '15 Fir Crest); medium-light bodied.

TASTE: Day 1: good acidity – a bit tart; ripe red fruits with a hint of oak. Day 2: high acid; light red fruits; austere; tannic; closed compared to Day 1. Day 3: opening-up from Day 2, but with the same flavors and sensations; high acid; red-fruited with a savory streak and some drying tannin. Day 5: tiny hint of oxidation now. 13.3% alc. Probably my favorite of the three, but it's a rather tight comparison.

    Day 1 rankings, starting with favorite: 1, 3, 2
    Day 2 rankings: 2, 1, 3

  • Tart black cherry, blackberry, mocha, black licorice, and baking spices. Intense, rich, yet also spicy on the palate.
