Rotie Cellars might be my favorite winery in the Rocks (Cayuse et al, I hasten to add, do not technically participate in the AVA). I rarely taste anything like the crushed flower-and-cured-olive-over-lamb shank subtlety of actual Cote Rotie in their tank-like offerings, but they're a pleasure to drink all the same.
This is, of course, a southern Rhône varietal, and the notes are very CdP despite the absence of Grenache--peppered game meat, blackberry compote, and a joyous dash of Christmas spices. It opens big, like a Broadway musical, and reveals a few bonus layers as it develops (particularly some olive brine). A rather understated finish. Overall quite earthy and fun--a comedy tonight, indeed.

Wow, amazing all around, aromatic nose of pepper, dark fruit, spice and tobacco. On the palette were notes of leather, smoke, blackberry and pepper, had a light herbaceous with a wonderfully long finish.
