  Proof that a wine can be Serious (with a capital S) and joyful at the same time. Big and brooding when opened, after 24 hours of air the aromas start to unfurl—there is that exuberant fresh red fruit familiar from lighter D&R bottlings lurking underneath a blacker spicier impression that you get oon the attack. There is body and tannin here too, suggesting a need for animal protein. The tannins are polished rather than rough though. With time in the glass the aromas evolve and the fruit mellows. Will be fun to follow this one over time.

  It's coming along. I decanted for two hours (would have been more; but I brought it to a restaurant who would not allow an open bottle to be consumed there). Red and dark fruit notes are there, structure is there, acid and tannins are there. In 2/3 years it will have more interesting things to say.
