Thin- to medium-bodied. A light raspberry color during the pour.
Pleasantly fruity on the nose. Tart cherries, raspberries, pomegranate and oak on the palate.
A moderate level of acidity, same with sweetness though it has fairly well-defined legs on the glass. Silky tannins. Smooth. Alcohol not up front in this wine, though it’s 14.5%.
More tannins and some spice notes as the wine opens up more at 1 3/4 hours.
Went well with a fairly robust pasta dish, where the wine’s acidity made sure it didn’t get lost amidst all those comfort food flavors.
Decanted 45 minutes.
I’d prefer a bit more body and earthiness, which is reflected in the score.

Retail $15. Under Screwcap. The second wine of this new brand from Rodney Strong that I have tried and it is certainly a notch above the Chard. Tons of fruit both on the nose and the palate, this is what I would call a "crowd-pleaser" Pinot. I have stated many times that it is hard to produce a introspective, layered, "sophisticated" Pinot, it needs to be north of thirty bucks. This checks in at half of that (more like a third in actuality) and while it perhaps falls short of "introspective" it is pretty darned good. Fruity (tons of cherry), nice acidity, even a bit of earth. I doubt there is a better $10 Pinot out there.
