  • The nose was a bit muted but apricot nuances were evident when letting the wine sit a little. It was not too sweet and had a bit of freshness to the taste.

The last of three bottles bought on release. Previous bottles powerful and somewhat rustic, needing much more time for optimal bottle ripeness.

This house, which often gets confused by the uninitiated with Egon Müller (although there's no similarity at all in style), is known for bargains in wines from the rare vineyards of Forst, such as the Jesuitengarten and the Kirchenstück. Most of these vineyards are volcanic and basaltic, and can in consequence have the powerful and richly-fruity wines. The Stift, used mainly for Eiswein, is a flatter site, upon which the Eiswein process can be completed with maximal efficiency and minimal loss.

Nice clean cork removed with Ah-So. Fullly refractive green-orange, showing the possibility of a fully-involved Botrytis eiswein here.

Big dried-apricot nose smelling like rivers of orange soda. There is a creamy, salty, marine, almost iodinaceous note in the fresh, forward, and well-defined nosenose, which is very fascinating and just beginning to develop at about 4 hours.

A big, almost rustically-styled sweet-tart Eiswein echoing the nose, and with a lovely long, clean finish without a hint of heat or cloying. Wonderful drinking right now but will hold well into the future. 92/100.
