Fitzgerald (Rotterdam, Netherlands): Stunning -- one of the best bottles of Labet I've had, and a real treat to come across a more recent bottle especially since they're now so hard to find. The nose shows a bit of flintiness and reduction in classic Labet style, but it never goes over the top or feels overwrought. Incredibly rich palate with lots of fruit thanks to the ripe vintage, but of course plenty of chardonnay acidity to cut through it. Very modest sotolon notes here so you know right away you're not dealing with Burgundian chardonnay. With air, the reduction softens as well. Simply outstanding.

Despite the richness of the vintage, this has a ton of acidity and the 14% are not showing. Nevertheless I felt this was kind of monolithic with not much going on and the acidity not yet integrated. Veru much on the green apple/lime/lemon. A little disappointed.

I was expecting a fatter softer style with its 14% alcohol but this is surprisingly fresh with a pronounced citrus, lemon peel acidity. Unlike most of the 2018 Labet Chardonnays this one is for the cellar. NR
