  • So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: I really had no expectations here. Never heard of this, and $18 CT value did not give me hope. What I loved though, before tasting, was that the label called it a Port, and it was from Madera, in California. Not spelled the same I realize, but as confusing as they intended I’m sure. I have no idea how old this is. No indication that I can figure out of when it was bottled. In the glass, it is brown, with decent clarity. Looks like a thick, old, Barolo. Of course, it does not smell like that. Carmel and brown sugar on the nose, and thick and syrupy on the palate, with more caramel, with maybe some underlying fruit there. My kids love the Harney & Sons Paris tea with some simple syrup and milk. That tea has fruity notes, which remind me of this wine. Not bad, and I’ll update if it changes over the next few weeks as I drink through this bottle.

Edit - just finished the bottle over 4 months. It didn’t ever improve from first impression, and at the end (open too long for sure) it is a bit harsh.

  • Great nutty finish that lingers. Not as caremely as most tawneys I've had but the finish is amazing.
