This was good with Bressingham duck breasts in a rich Cantonese plum sauce. Whilst it partnered the food well, it unfortunately failed to impress on its own afterwards when the fairly austere dark, sour cherry and dark plum fruit was overwhelmed by the acidity and tannin. Note added next day. As before, this was definitely better next day (with food - barbecued beef and belly pork). Worth an extra point but open it early.

As my previous note. Mainly cherry fruit (hints of sour cherries), dark plums, spice. Given time, it became more complex, smooth, with better balanced acidity and softer tannins. Good with food. Over 5+ hours, the wine softened and developed further. Open early. Note: As with the previous bottle, it drank better 24h later.

Deep colour, the nose opened gradually The palate showed good fruit immediately after opening with cherry fruit (hints of sour cherries), dark plums, and plenty of spice. Both the nose and palate developed and became more complex over time. Very dry but quite smooth with soft tannins and balanced acidity. Some mouth-drying tannins on the the late palate early making it a good wine to complement food. After a couple of hours, the wine softened a good deal and developed perfume on the middle palate but the balance of acidity and fruit gradually seemed to tip away from the fruit and floral flavours. Interestingly, the next day, the nose was much richer, the fruit was softer, and the acidity and soft tannins much better integrated. There was a touch of orange with the dark fruits. It was more enjoyable after a day. Good value.
