100% Cabernet Franc from Chinon, no sulfites added, aged in stainless steel. No oak elevage.
Popped and poured, pours a medium red in the glass. Certainly not purple like the tech sheet says. On the nose it’s surprisingly hot for 13.5% but it’s got grilled pepper, some red fruits too like raspberries and strawberries under the alcohol. On the palate it’s got a distinct note of spiced red apple, like if you made apple pie with red apples. Interesting note I’ve never picked up in another wine. You definitely get some of that grilled pepper/pyrazine on the palate but it’s very pleasant red berries, licorice. Some herbs.
Medium acidity, medium body, medium-short finish. Medium-low tannins. Tiny bit of earth/mushroom/savory at the end. Easy drinking Cabernet Franc from the Loire. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either. Good pickup on sale for $16.

The origin of this bottle escapes me now, but not having entered it in my CT "cellar," makes me think I picked it up unceremoniously at a liquor store somewhere. Whatever, I was duly impressed. Am I wrong in thinking that cabernet francs tend to be underappreciated? This one has bold, tart berry/currant fruit, with good length and some spicy notes. I hope I can find it again.

Russk. A good introduction to Chinon. A little bit of all elements, none out of balance. Moderate nose of fruit, earth and chalk. Body Medium. Alcohol Medium minus. Mouth savory. Some bay leaf, bell pepper, raspberry and animal. No elbows. $17 from Whole Foods. Get. Couple more. 91- pts.
