  • Bright ruby with a garnet rim. Rich flavors of currant and dark cherries backed up with just enough acidity to keep it lively. Light spice and vanilla flavors with mild tannins. Noticeably less vibrant aromas and flavors on day 2. Good deal at $9.

  • Deep ruby red color. Raspberry and light spice scent. Medium body, cherry, currant, and light toasted oak taste with good tannins. Simple, on the light side, but very pleasant especially with food. Excellent QPR.

  • Gave this wine an additional year to develop after drinking my first bottle. I don't know whether that made a big difference, but I think my tastes have changed enough that I can appreciate this bottle more. Still getting almost nothing off the nose, except maybe something blunt and savory like vegetable soup. Certainly no detectable fruit aromas. The palate ignites with a blast of acidic red fruit that sometimes swings toward sour. Angular, mouthcoating tannins follow, drying to the point of astringency. The acidity should make it pair well with food, but it didn't get along all that well with black bean burgers. Finishes crisp and tart.

  • Medium ruby. Nose of licorice, dark berries, very faint rubber note and a bit of alcohol. Decent palate with fruit profile leaning to red side. A bit of tartness on somewhat short finish. Not bad QPR but there's other wine available in this price point that provides more pleasure.

  • I'm not sure where people are getting the claims of rich dark fruit, as this wine fell flat for me. A pretty nose at first, but almost nothing but ethyl alcohol in the mouth. After an hour or more in the glass it sweetened up and became more pleasant. Drank the remaining half-bottle two nights later with better results, much more expressive with berry fruit, but the sweetness then grew to a level that was distracting. It came across as thin, sugary and one-dimensional. The only interesting note I picked up was a hint of toast with berry jam. By the last few swallows it had softened so much it was strongly reminiscent of Merlot. Just not a very interesting or distinctive wine. Hopefully my other bottle will fare better.
