Decanted. Wine is starting to show a little bricking in the glass. Some initial tasting shows baked cherries, after about 30 minutes. Mushrooms and forest floor, too. I wish I had some mushroom risotto or wild mushroom ravioli in front of me right now. Very soft and silky on the pallet with round tannins. I suspect this will continue to open for the next several hours.
Actually, not too much different a couple hours later. Maybe more black cherry, vanilla, and dirt notes.

This is much better than the first bottle about 3 years ago, but still not sure that it's worth the almost $40 price tag. After about an hour in the decanter, much of the initial dirt and wood influences wore off. Nicely balanced, with sweet and tart fruits and some spices. It went well with spicy and savory Asian food.

This still needs some time in the bottle, but has potential. After several hours in the decanter, some of the initial funk blew off and some cherry, mushroom, and vanilla flavors came forward. Enough tannins and good acidity to keep this going for many years yet. It was best on the third day, after sitting in the frig (on argon) for two days. I'll wait a couple years before opening another one.

Dale Cruse's Blind Tasting Party: Medium red, lighted at the edges with a touch of brown. At first, there seemed to be a little too much oak on the nose for me. Lots of vanilla. But also ripe plums, wet leather, earth, green pepper and minty. Nose was echoed in the palate with a little added tobacco. Thought the mid-palate was a little lacking. Nice grip on the finish if a little grainy. Need some time to integrate.
