One of those wines that almost brings you to tears with childhood memories of Central European cooking spices and compot fruit juice. The pinnacle of new world Pinot, for such a bargain.

I won't scribe much here as this wine wasn't even close to wherever it ranked on the Wine Spectator Top 100 list. Whoever tasted it had a better bottle, better ambience or maybe an espresso just before sitting down to the glass.
The wine was made well. That is, there were no faults.
But, over the past months, I've had Oregon's Roserock and Burgundian Bonne Mares and the like... and this Aussie Giant Steps, was a giant disappointment.
At least to me.
My guests, (my daughter and her 3 university roommates) thought it was ok. And, last night, the dining experience was all that mattered. They finished the bottle/ bottles...
I moved onto a Gewurtz from the night before.
Alas, Drinking the Rainbow, is occasionally a rough road!
PS- Drink the Rainbow!

Pale color with aromas of red cherry, rhubarb and Nibs. Palate is similar to the nose with medium tannins and a refreshing finish Nice expression of Pinot drinking nicely now and over the next 5 years

Clean. Medium(+) intensity with aroma of cherry rhubarb yogurt green tea thyme and strawberry leaf.
Dry. Medium(+) alcohol. Medium(+) acidity. Medium tannins. Medium body. Medium(+) intensity with flavours of cherry rhubarb strawberry thyme and green tea.
Medium(+) finish. Very good. Drink now suitable for further ageing. Great flavour complexity and elegance. Wonderful new world wine with old world sensibility.
