  • Started somewhat muted, opened up to some dark fruits, oak and leather, but remained light-bodied. Fully opened up was balanced and with a medium-finish. Tannin-focused when tired.

    from two estate vineyards in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough:
    Johnson Vineyard in Waihopai Valley with clay/silt loam over alluvium;
    Outpost Vineyard in Omaka Valley with clay/loess over glacial gravel.
    Sustainably grown.
    Natural fermentation with gentle hand plunging.
    Aged 11 months in French oak barrels.
    13% Abv.
    History: Founded by Bryan and Jan Johnson in 1993

    Chief Winemaker: Paul Bourgeois (until mid-2019, followed by Wendy Stuckey)

    A(ccuracy)=2: Med(turning deep) black cherry. Plush, smoky varietal.
    B(alance)=3: Modulated components in perfect harmony.
    C(omplexity)=2: Berries, plum, stalk, spices.
    D(epth)=1: Sauve mouthfeel. Good length and finish.

    One of the most "TOGETHER" pinot tasted in a while.

  • Medium ruby color. Tobacco, red cherry, vanilla with some mushroom and smoke. Fruit forward, dry, moderate acidity and a long finish.
