If tasted blind, I doubt that I could discern the difference between Carter's 2018 and 2019 Oriana offerings. Like its elder sibling, the 2019 is an intensely aromatic blend of 49% Viognier, 41% Roussanne and 10% Riesling. Fermented in a combination of neutral oak and stainless steel (with preclusion of malolactic conversion), it is a pale yellow, light-bodied wine that serves up aromas and flavors of tangerines, lemon verbena, stone fruits and white flowers. Fresh, dry and without noticeable alcohol (13.9%), it stays solid on the mid-palate and has only the slightest hint of oak. Finishing long and energetic, this is an impressive, floral, imaginative white that should be best during its first five years. Drink now-2024.
