  • The Premier Cru site Les Valozières is located between the Grand Cru sites Corton Bressandes and Corton Les Paulands. The 0.28 hectares were planted in 1987. The topsoil is dominated by clay, while the subsoil has a lot of limestone with gravel inclusions. Spontaneous fermentation took place in wood cuve with 100% whole cluster. Then it went by gravity into the barriques and tonneaux with a small amount of new wood. This was followed by about 14 months of aging without further agitation or racking. Filling was done with minimal sulfur, mostly straight from the barrel.

The 2019 Aloxe-Corton appears restrained and reductive at first. The young Pinot Noir needs time. Then an aromatic spectrum of tobacco, bay leaf, nuts and herbal extracts, dry underbrush and equally dry foliage develops. Over time, a very seductive but always subtle note of ripe sweet cherries, red berries and plums settles on top.

On the palate, the 2019 Aloxe-Corton appears juicy tart and herbaceous. The fruit is more in the background. Instead, a strong tannin framework has formed here. The Aloxe-Corton is a muscular and broad-shouldered wine whose development has barely begun.
