  • Really impressive fruit and flavor intensity here. Lemon and lime zest, wet limestone, yuzu, crushed white flowers, and the slightest hint of petrol, this FdP version of Bournais is exceptional. The focus and drive are similar to a hyper young Riesling, but with an expansion that, though chiseled, allows for a cascading amount of layered complexity. Finishes sparkly and alive.

Is the Franc de Pied ($120-ish) “worth” more than the standard bottlings ($35-45)? Yes and no. At $35, the standard is a pretty great wine and a hard QPR to beat. That said, this is a fantastic Chenin, quite a significant step(s) above the standard, and worth hunting down the one bottle that a few rando wine stores manage to snatch every year. Hold ‘em if ya got ‘em, but it was a great showing nonetheless tonight.

  • Loire Valley serves a really good Chenin Blanc too with fine minerality, and a well balanced citrus note. Super Wine to pair with the Cream of Cauliflower and Parmesan slices soup!

A special evening in the Sacré-Coeur area of Paris' Montmartre where we were hosted to a home cooked French meal by very dear ex colleague LS ???? Cold night here but so much warmth and ??!
