Amazing complexity of this beauty. I prepared 16’ la Conseillante and Impensata for this side by side tasting. There were two winners. La Conseillante showed a more smoky, cedary, and taste of graphite. It was like an old man, who takes a long walk with me, tells me tons of stories calm and elegantly. On the other hand, Impensata was still fruity but the undertone had mineral, cedar, a touch of acid, and licorice, which indicated a bright future ahead. It’s like an royal prodigy. It is already so good now, and it will get better and better in a few years later. I won’t touch it at least 5 years. Let time do the magic!

This is my second stab at this wine, and although I can see why others favor the 2018, I may be straddling the other side of the line with my love for the 2019. I simply find the 2019 to be a gorgeous and captivating wine. Beautifully full in mouthfeel, with rich black cherry and raspberry, spice, cassis, red licorice, violets, and a serious yum factor that brings it all together.
Sure, it’s Napa and it’s considerably ripe, but truly what puts a bow on it for me is the superb elegance, especially considering how gushing it is on the palate. It’s a textural dream, with an unparalleled silky mouthfeel. The finish follows suit with the undulating reverberation of fruit and spice flavors. If you’re a Napa flavorhound that gets down with the modern (but not too modern) juice, it’s difficult to ignore the class here. Seriously delicious.

PNP and drank over 2 nights. Definitely a step down vs the 18 which is phenomenal. Velvety core and beautiful chocolate notes. Long finish and plenty to contemplate but at this point much better with food.

Bella, Vice Versa and Impensata Napa tasting: Grand cru Merlot from Napa...that is how I look at Impensata's merlot offering. High acid, structured and thought provoking. This will have a long life ahead of itself. Between the 18 and 19, I prefer the 18 at this point. My next steps are to see this wine as a PnP as I think the wine could have been decanted a bit too long for my palate.

Black fruit, red fruit, cedar, herbal notes, spice layered complexity. A+ (97)
