  • Beautifully mature. Tertiary notes of forest floor, smoke, leather, together with hints of wild strawberries and more evolved fruit. Tannins are completely integrated, smooth mouthfeel with fresh acidity lingering on the pleasant finish. Lovely bottle of wine, great quality.

  • Incredibly rich violet-ruby hue--not opaque by any means, but a riveting deep color relative to so many other cherry-red German Pinots. Speaking of violet, floral notes of this gorgeous flower billow from the glass, allied to subtle toast notes of butterscotch and caramel. There is a very distinct smell of new carpet, and I don't find this off-putting at all. Love it. Rose water, an infinite melange of briery dark fruits, and some creamy pomegranate syrup to round out this luscious nose. Great attack on the palate, just barely enough tannin to give this structure, and an unparalleled sensation of fruit that never quits. The texture here really comes from the acidity; the acid and tannin work extremely well together to give this an unctuous, seamless, velvety structure. Honestly, the fruit never quits. At least five minutes have gone by, and I can still distinctly f-e-e-l this wine on the palate. Flavor-wise, I don't even want to pick this wine apart. This wine is really about a young man impassioned by his pursuit of balance, purity, typicity and integrity--in a word, perfection. This wine reverberates with everything I believe Georg Rumpf is fighting for in this new era of young vintners, something you could ultimately sum up in one word as well: change. That passion is what makes this wine Perfect for me, and in my eyes, was the only wine in my collection befitting the inauguration of this country's first African American President, Mr. Barack Obama.

BTW: The finish lasts forever. 100% integrated, lush, tantalizing, seemingly infinite. I can't wax any more euphoric than that, but believe me, it was that good. The nose grows inward over time, but that's to be expected. As a wine, 97+. As an experience, 100.
