Dense, almost oily texture. Floral on the noise, almost exotic fruit and spices on the palate – resolutely dry, but the ripeness conveyed a sensation of sweetness. A friend of mine who tried it the next day thought she picked up tamarind. A long, long finish. A monument – truly complex on the nose and palate and very fascinating. But, truthfully, I wished it had a touch more lift and verve. Patrician, stately, blue-blooded, but perhaps a bit low-energy – don’t get me wrong, it’s great wine, just something I admire more than love.

Berserker Thursday - Riesling in SF (Mezze and More): Perhaps WOTN for me among a lot of really beautiful Rieslings. Lovely complex nose, an herb garden galore. Palate with good density but dry, well balanced, that flowed and morphed over time for white fruit to savory herbs to flowers. Great intensity balance and length. A lovely aged Riesling. I don’t drink many Alsatians but this was a winner.

Drank from a 3liter, weinbach 100 year anniversary bottle, outstanding, decanted into two decanters so we could use the bottle for birthday wishes, it's been decanted all day and opened for 24 hours yet continues to unfold, wish I had a few more in this absurdly fun format.

Beautiful rich petrol flavours. Dry and went well with strongly flavoured paella. 4+/5 (93-95)
