In the sea of wine at the Waterford staff party, I remember this as being much more supple than I would have thought. Lots of blue fruit stood out. It makes me think of a well-dressed man in a classic blue suit...stoic, but kind...intelligent, and well spoken without pretension. Yes, I think that'll do it.

Waterford Staff Attack (Waterford Wines Milwaukee): this very well could have been the wine that put me over the edge last night. let's just think of this wine as the phone call that i got from Karl, as he picked me up from the party. i was sitting, then lying, then sitting on the waterford stoop. then this wine called, and i felt it's vibration pull me back from the depths of drink. Thanks lindsay.

A notch better than the Preston we imbibed the same night... Brighter ruby in color, with an assertive nose of ripe red and purple fruit. There is also some lovely syrah 'funk' with leather/earth/herbs... always a welcome addition. Finishes with a nice persistence and lift of ripe fruit.

Thursday Night 5 for $5 (The Grapevine - Pocatello, ID): Dark purple color, moderate nose of funk, dark fruits, blackberry, currant, spice, wood and some floral notes. Medium full body, lively acid and medium round tannins. Flavorful spice, plum, blackberry and tobacco. Long finish. A full, rich wine. Very nice.
