NOSE: oak, a little amber smoke, char, sherry bomb, plum, fig, vanilla, marzipan, charcoal, dried fruit generally. PALETTE: smooth, oak, slight vanilla, caramel, a little smoke but mostly sherry. Cherry and fruit are also strong. Orange zest, raisins are strong here. FINISH: finishes very very smooth with oaky dryness on the back of the palette. Excellent sherry remnants on the finish as well with a little bit of pencil shavings and burnt rubber. 9/10

Clearly a gold standard for a reason. Big oak from the Sherry cask finish, but still well integrated and well rounded. Caramel, cinnamon, dried fruit. Just wonderful.

Some favorite Scotch's: Macallan 18: near perfect, complex, smooth, great saline notes, touch of wood, intense but delightful Balvenie 21: bit darker, very aromatic, complex with touch of caramel, very smooth, long, super good Jura Superstition: nice peaty notes, slightly rustic with good character Springbank 18: very nice fruity aspect apricot, salt, apple skin, even on palate. good depth, long, really nice character. Johnny Walker Blue Label: very smooth, but not lots of character, medium complexity, good, but would not purchase.
