It's not bad... but lacks subtlety. Bright fresh fruit, cherries and cranberries. Bit of smoke, but overall oak not fully integrated - feels like a bit too much work in the winery vs enough substance off the vine.

Svært lys og transparent. Flint, bregneskog røde bær på nesen. Syrlig anslag med kirsebær og nesler, går over mot mørkere frukt med lett bitterhet a la appelsinskall. Silkemyke tanniner, krydret og lang finish. Overraskende bra konsentrasjon. Finishen avslutter litt emment, mot umoden banan.

Having tasted this pinot a few weeks ago at a wine dinner, this was the first bottle drunk of the six I purchased. It didn't disappoint. Light cherry colour, it's full of ripe cherry fruit, but more importantly it's got a reasonable amount of depth and body, so stood up well to the duck risotto it accompanied. It's still hard to find good still red wines from England, but this is good and it's reasonably well priced.

Goswell & Birds Wine Dinner, Finchampstead, UK. Dinner featuring all wines from Simpsons Wine Estate, Kent, England and introduced by their Sales & Events Executive Silvia Cackova. This pinot noir served to accompany loin of fallow deer. Clear cherry colour. Lovely complex nose, featuring violet savouriness with a hint of smokiness. Quite a full palate, cherries. Perfectly ready for drinking at 2 years age. I wouldn't suggest keeping this too long, it might not be as good later! Possibly the best English still pinot noir that I have tasted.
