I was surprised to see this 7 year old, basic Chardonnay lingering on a store shelf, so I thought I would give it a try. Remarkably, it has held up very well. Medium-lemon core, with a (still) primary nose of fresh peach and wintergreen. On the palate, the wine shows its age a bit more, particularly on the finish. Still, there is good fruit and good intensity here, and a bracing acidity to boot! Never underestimate a Hunter Valley white...
