Purchased at Ricasoli in Chianti following a cellar tasting. Truly elegant and refined, exhibiting “my favorite flavor, cherry red.” Garnet color in the glass with bright red fruit at the front with subtle yet structured tannins, a bit of bramble, with a hint of pepper at the end. A PNP with no regrets. Our visit to Ricasoli and Chianti was a dream for any oenophile. At Ricasoli we met a fellow taster that was associated with Tenuta di Arceno (in Chianti). He extended an invitation for us to do a tasting at Tenuta di Arceno, and called ahead to let them know we were coming. We arrived and the door was locked with two other tasters in the winery. They opened their doors and said they were waiting for us. They were so warm and welcoming in spite of it being after normal business hours. Once inside we tasted the day’s offerings and our host then proceeded to open yet to be released bottles not yet for sale, and a cheese and salumi plate. I remarked to my husband, “we’re definitely not in the USA anymore, because I can’t think of any winery that would extend themselves beyond business hours.” The icing on the cake was when the winemaker, Pierre Seillan, came into the tasting room after surveying the vineyard. We were introduced as Giuseppe’s friends from California. Well, Pierre proceeds to invite us to visit Verite Winery in Healdsburg, if we are ever in the area. I can’t say enough about wine travel. The places, experiences, and people you meet makes for a wonderfully fulfilling experience and sweet surprises.

See previous notes. Brilliant medium ruby in glass with garnet hues. Bright, light on its feet but with substance and complexity. Red cherries, sweet spice and camphor. Good acidity, mellow tannins and classy finish.

Cherries, earth, iron, and baking spices on the nose. Elegant with punchy acidity and silky tannins. Can see this lasting until its twentieth anniversary and beyond, but also enjoyable now with a little decanting time.
Side note: This wine is an exception to the rule of thumb that heavy bottle = heavy wine!

See previous notes. Exceptional. Sweet cherry syrup, violets and balsam. Layered, complex with fresh acidity. Nimble. Drink now or hold.
