  • Really enjoyable Syrah from the Yorkville Highlands. Nose of blackberry and spices. TRt blackberry on the palate with some pepper and smoke. Nice fruit on the finish. I’d say this one is medium weight. I’d also say that this one has 2-3 years left of proper storage.

A few reviewers remarked that they detected Brett, which I assume meant the bad kind of Brett that brings barnyard, manure and other nasty smells. I didn’t get that at all, so maybe I got lucky with my bottle as I really enjoyed it. Tasted it at the winery about 3 years ago and liked it a lot so I bought a few bottles, this was my last one. It sucks when you open a bottle and are disappointed, there may be nothing worse.

  • More brett than I can enjoy. Have had two bottles to confirm. Bummed I have 4 more in the basement.

  • Cool climate Syrah (with 2% Petit Sirah) from a small family winery in Mendocino. Spent 21 months in barrel.

Gave 2.5h air. Medium garnet color. Aromas of plum, oak, forest floor, clove. Medium-full body, velvety texture. Assertive dark fruit on the palate, slightly overwhelmed initially by oakiness and stalky tannins in the finish. Both resolve somewhat with time in glass, so this may improve with time in the cellar or a longer decant. Decent, but feels a bit overworked.
