  • Lovely stuff. Part of a wine dinner and I didn't get to it until the end of the night.

Very aromatic nose of petrol, chalky stone, white flower. Bristling acidity and energy on the palate with lemon, tart pear, and white flowers. Mineral driven finish.

My god, riesling is so so good.

  • Rieslings and Ribeira Sacras (Magna Kusina, Portland OR): The nose is wide open from the first pour with fresh tones of white peach, green apple, pears, nectarines, chamomile, ginger, lemon curd, vanilla bean, Asian spice, allspice, and jasmine flowers. This has a spring-like nature that I really like, but doesn't have the depth of the bigger boy GGs. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and balanced with zesty, high acidity. The acidity is a lot more balanced and in check than I would've expected at this age, but the feel is still a bit delicate and youthful.

  • This vineyard is a fairly new source for the winery and I believe this may even be the first bottling from this site. From what I had heard, this is super high quality and basically a Grosses Gewächs at half the price. I was anxious to try this, not only because I was curious about the wine, but also because Frank Schönleber absolutely killed it in 2019.
The wine was supremely mineral and pure with beautifully perfumed citrus notes, flint, a whiff of coconut, and mint on the nose.
The palate was mouthwatering with racy acidity on top of mineral water like freshness and clarity. Delicious notes of lemon lime, spiced nectarines and piquant guava all made this absolutely irresistible.
These 2019s from Emrich-Schönleber are special wines. You know a wine is rocking good when halfway through the bottle you start texting possible sources and hunting the web to buy more.
This will age wonderfully, but if you have more than one bottle in the cellar, I’d say open it. The youthful allure and energy of this wine (and the other 2019s from E-S) is magnetic and draw you into them in a way that is hard to compare. Magic!

  • A freshly wound mainspring of a wine. Tightly wound, concentrated, yet precise and clear cut. Filled with grapefruit zest, crushed slate, and cooling herbs. Firm and craggily texture with a lasting mineral and sapid finish. Enjoyable now with a decant, but clearly needs a few years to unwind. Saved some for day 2 to see how it evolves. AP 12 20

Day 2: It's significantly unwound from the previous night, but still maintains that slackline tension, density and power. The fruit became more exuberant, prickly pear, peach, amla; and as it warmed up in the glass, the herbal elements became clearer and floral notes started emerging. Lemon balm, mimosa, vetiver.

    ABV: 12.5%
    Closure: natural cork
    Stem: Grassl 1855
    Decant: 3h
