  • Deep ruby colour, showing pale rim and tears.
Earthy, black fruit, and violet aromas.
Full-bodied. Well intergrated tannins with complex cassis, tea, herbaceous, mint flavours. Medium acidity, long finish.
Delicious, a wine that shows quality and ageing potential from Chilean wines.

  • I popped and poured half of the bottle over a period of two hours one evening, vacuum pumped the rest and drank it the third evening after opening the bottle.

As past vintages, the wine had really dark purple colour, with a small watery rim. Popped and poured, the nose was dominated by a heavy rubber component. I also got some dark fruits, a nice spiciness and an egg nogg component. No surprise on the palate, a very heavy rubber component and dark fruits (blackberry, plum, fig), with a rather long finish. The medium- to full-bodied wine was pretty dry.

What a nice surprise on the third evening! The rubber component was still there, but much more subtle and well integrated. The wine still showed lots of dark fruit, but now also showed a fresh cherry component. The wine was spicier, but also more balanced and rounder, very round and smooth in fact, with integrated oak and with vanilla on the back-end and finish. The wine still was medium- to full bodied; the finish had medium length and a little less weight than on the first evening.

I really liked this wine. I had a couple of earlier vintage of this wine in the past, with varying results. Unlike some critics, of the more recent vintages I probably liked the 2003 best, a hair better that the 2005, but I definitely prefer this 2005 to the 2004 version of this wine.

I would say that the wine would definitely benefit from another year in the cellar and should drink well at least through 2011.

  • Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah and Cabernet Franc this wine is aged in French oak for 12 months. Rich purple in colour, I found candied black fruit, liquorice, tar and a little alcohol on the nose. The palate is full bodied and dry. Jammy dark fruits, white pepper, spice and a hint of sweet vanilla. Nice for 10 quid.

  • Decent bottle for the price. Popped and poured. A little young, tight and with some heat. Paired well with the braised pork and pasta. Dark brickish color. Deep taste, nice mouth feel, long finish.
