  • Nice little drinker picked up from Costco. It is a bit tight in the bottle. A little age I believe might open this up and allow the wine to evolve. I did not decant, but drank it over a couple of days.

  • Immediately upon opening:
Fairly dark if clear burgundy color in the glass with caustics peeking through. It has an almost vivid purplish meniscus and develops many quick legs. The more I look at it, the more it feels like gazing into a blacklight. Definitely some colors on the UV edge of the spectrum playing about.

The nose presents toast, loam, and subtle floral and berry notes.

On the palate it is lighter mid-weight, tart, and leathery with little character of note peeking out yet -maybe some blackberry and cherry. It needs some time to decant, I think.

Now that it's decanted 1.5 hours, lovely sugared violet and raspberry aromas rise from the nose. They come through on the palate as well. The tart and leather has balanced out nicely. A delicate wine.

  • I have to say, this is probably a bit too young right now, even though it has been open over 24 hours. It has softened, but still doesn't quite exhibit the smorgasbord of aromas Galloni describes, and I certainly can't say I love it.
There are some chocolate flavors of note, and a rasberry color, also throwing a heavy sediment, but for now for me it is no better than: 4-12-16-8: 90/100. I'm not seeing a whole lot of further development ahead.

  • Rather light and with a lovely chuggability, this fresh dolcetto is of a kind I had almost forgotten existed after having many heavier, more tannic version. This is the kind of dolcetto to have with a nice pasta lunch in the spring sun. Light and fresh but not atypical for the region or the grape.

It's not a 94 point wine on any scale other than the scale specific to just Dolcetto though, but really didn't think it would be when I paid 11 euros for it.

  • Eh. The expectation was high after VN ratings (92), but this does not deliver. I suspect it just needs time. Right now it is rather thing, light and eventless. Not lovely
