Beautiful nose of crushed blackberries, twirling the glass brings out rich dark chocolate from oak, hints of deep plum. The palate is rather medium bodied and light on its feet. The fruit starts at red cherry and blackberry, but the acid and tannin sweeps over to bring licorice and lavender to the forefront. This carries through to the finish, but the serious structure from acid and tannin take over and put rocky earth on full display.
This is a lovely mountain wine. This is very focused and gently extracted, doesn't feel overly rich or goopy or sloppy in any way. Tons of character and structure, with awesome aromatics. Plenty of class in this bottle.
I think this is a wine to forget about for 3 years to check in, though I suspect it will be fantastic in 10. 91-92
Day 2: Completely evolved. The nose has much more depth, integration, and richness. The palate gained body and strength. The acid is still present and the tannins have toned down but they still provide excellent structure to the wine. The fruit has transitioned to a deep red tone with black licorice notes. Finish lasts forever. Honestly fantastic. Bumping to 93.
