At Hendry, during a tasting visit, I remarked to my hostess that I had never tasted an American Malbec, that my experience was limited to Argentina Malbecs. Oh, my hostess replied, American Malbecs taste different. This is my first American Malbec. I prefer Argentina Malbecs. I'm a fan of Hendry wines, but this is flabby, missing that muscular drive, lift and spiciness of solid Argentina Malbecs. In fact, I'd go so far as to write that if the label on the bottle didn't identify Malbec as the varietal, this would appear to be a non-descript red wine of indeterminate origin. Something fundamental is missing here. Points awarded for effort, as in no harm, no foul.
