Dark crimson color. Compared to prior vintages I have had of this wine, the vintage was a bit riper and showed a bit more oak than I recall and I agree that it comes across a bit flabby on the palate, especially compared to most Matthiasson wines. With that said, it was quite tasty as an after dinner sipping wine with ripe black cherry notes and a bit of sweet oak and a very smooth mouthfeel and finish. It's just not what I typically get from this wine most years.

First taste: medium light body. Some fruit on nose but not overwhelming. Cedar. Little mint. Green leaves. Taste: highish acid. Some tannin but not overwhelming. Early fruit dissipates quick. Woody and forest floor, but bright not musty. Solid.
Has mellowed out substantially after 30 or so minutes, in a good way. All of the earthiness is still there without the slightly astringent bittern green woodiness upon opening.

This wine is best drunk slightly chilled. The flavors (described as flabby by another reviewer) are bright and complex, with a lovely minerality that gives it body and structure. A nice quaffing wine.

Gorgeous color - garnet/purple. Forest floor and crushed frais de bois on the nose. Good acidity but with prominent, drying tannins. Very vegetal - red pepper puree and rhubarb come to mind. Medium finish, dominated by vegetal notes. An oddity.
