I didn’t take detailed notes but overall I had mixed feelings with this. Dark berries and herbs on the nose, albeit a little muted. There was good acidity and still a fair bit of tannins. The fruit wasn’t expressive but neither was there a lot of tertiary development. This is a good wine but today didn’t come across as a great wine. But perhaps more age will see this develop because it seems to have the structure to age.

CWG Auction Event Tasting (Ernie Els Wines): A six way blend, that is Cab led at 32% with 23 CF and 22 Merlot; the rest being PV, Malbec and Syrah. Fresh, open expressive aromas of cherry, raspberry, brambles, and blackberry with a touch of redcurrant. A fresh, lively, energetic entry with ripe sandy tannins, great intensity and focussed. Plenty going on; the wine is vibrant with a cherry stone textural grip to the mid-palate and flavours of raspberry preserve, perhaps black raspberry and lots more redcurrant with a subtle spice. Linear and long, there is a layer of cool raspberry freshness and redcurrant that runs through the wine, whilst the tannins feel firmer as the wine opens and gives the wine a vertical edge and dryness. 91-93

Bit young. 1 hour decant - more wouldn’t have hurt. Quite big with dark berries and woody herbs. Long finish.
