This was in a blind line up of some very prestigious 2019 Napa reds (and one 2016 thrown in), specifically:
2019 MacDonald 2019 Kinsman Eades La Voleuse Du Chagrin 2019 Kinsman Eades Anjea Sleeping Lady Vineyard 2019 Colgin Tychson Hill 2019 Realm Absurd 2019 Scarecrow 2019 Harlan 2019 Myriad Elysian 2019 La Pelle Res 2019 Magnificent 7 2019 Cliff Lede Songbook 2016 Colgin Tychson Hill
2019 Realm Absurd - Aptly named for its absurd price, but also absurdly good! The wine was surprising perfumed and silky and totally in my wheelhouse! The nose and palate were both singing immediately. Violets, molasses, dark fruit, some wet rock and forest floor....This wine stood out....96+ 97....not quite the top 3, but darn close! I mean seriously, this was a "Who's Who" of top CA producers that I could sit and enjoy any of these wines!
Very well made wine. Comparing it to say the M7 which for whatever reason I like to compare them two, maybe losing a step to it in the grand scheme of things.

Palate: Brooding, ripe, dark red fruits, dried and bitter minerals, graphite and wet soil on the finish with some drying tannin.
So generous on the palate, but this might've needed some time to really shine (I'm like a song on repeat right now). The tannin seemed to have indicated that there was plenty underneath all that fruit that is waiting to surface. Take score with a grain of salt.
Excited to share this one with Mark as I knew he would appreciate it. But this exceeded all of my expectations, even for such an absurdly priced wine. 70 min sitting in wide glasses (Josephine Huitte Rouge) while we drank the AT Aequorin. Approachable from the first sip. The nose itself took me to another place. Floral and dark fruity and spicy. Dark molasses and rum, wet stones, smooth tannins, forever finish. Incredibly well made. Tannins seemed to accumulate over the few hours we were drinking it and while incredibly drinkable has structure for the future. This wine seemed like it had even more to give, tightly coiled underneath. This was a 97-98 at it’s naked rawest self. Can’t wait to see what it does in a few years.
Crazy wines the DQ is opening for me.....I thought this was supposed to be an old vintage Bdx week and she springs this and the AXR Madrone on me!
Decanted in our glasses for a good 70 minutes then tasted and enjoyed over the next 4+ hours. A small amount kept in the bottle for overnight so we can see how it does on night #2 tomorrow.
Darkest of purple in the glass. Nose of regal, juicy, sweet blue and black fruit. Palate of boysenberry and sweet tobacco or molasses-like flavors. This wine is rich and full bodied and eerily reminiscent of the stable of '15 BCellars Becks that caught my eye at first sniff/sip back in '17 at their tasting room. Uncanny. All elements are balanced beautifully. So much silky cassis and density I want to give it a 98, but at the same time, it feels so young yet and not near its peak by a long shot. My worries of too much air to a young wine like this turning it just a tad off and blacker were realized but only at the end of the glass after at least 4-5 hours of air. This did not back up or shut down completely as some great '16s did with 5 hours of air and turn completely black/bitter, but it started to ever so slightly. I'm torn between a 97 and 98 tonight because of that. However, I believe this wine has at least 2, maybe even 3 more points in it, if given some time. How much? I don't know, but it's so damn good.......a tremendous treat for me, Jen. Thanks so much for sharing.

Eyes Wide Shut - Day 2 (A quiet place): Nose: Quiet and soft red fruits, white flowers, and wet mulch.
Palate: Brooding, ripe, dark red fruits, dried and bitter minerals, graphite and wet soil on the finish with some drying tannin.
