  Albert Seltz of the domaine by the same name in Mittelbergheim, Alsace, says: "There is no wine that you do not like, only wine that you do not understand." While this is not always true — given the glut of crappy, mostly New World wines — it may be the case in Alsace. When I first tasted this Riesling, I didn't quite understand it. But since then I've traveled to Alsace and begun to understand what quality vintners are doing with Riesling (and the other premium grapes). And I now know, thru tasting experience, that Alsatian Grand Cru (and other quality) Rieslings only begin to show themselves at maybe five years of age and can continue to develop for years — maybe decades — after that. If you're tired of the same old Chardonnay s**t that retails for this price and more, now you have an alternative to pursue.
  
  (6/17/2022) Light greenish yellow. Impressive Alsatian Riesling nose — i.e. more mineral than fruit. Dry, full Riesling flavors leaning a bit toward the austere. Plenty of acidity to carry it thru. This is definitely a Riesling that requires food.

  The thing that annoys me about Riesling is that most labels don't tell you if it's going to be dry, off-dry or sweet. Deductive reasoning tells me this bottle is going to be dry due to it's 13.5% ABV. A very pretty medium lemon color in the glass with pronounced aromas of lemon zest, grapefruit pith, petrol, geranium and ripe pear. It tastes dry as expected with very high acidity and a delicious cut of lemon/grapefruit. The ripe pear note is more a green pear note on the palate but I do get florals and petrol. I can sense the alcohol if I breath out through my nose, which is unusual for me as my threshold is pretty high to sense the burn. I would say this wine is medium bodied and it has a juicy, tart finish that is medium in length. It begs for Asian dishes or a grilled seafood platter. I like it but think it will develop over time. Right now it is really zesty with just a few primary flavors. It should flesh out and develop with time as it has great structure for cellaring. 92 points from me for this $60 bottle makes it a 4 star effort.
