Got a lot of vanilla on this, which overwhelmed much else. Motz may be on to something with tasting on the second day, after a lot of air. I don't recall if I aerated by the glass, but maybe should have double decanted. I have one more, so am warned.

Landmark Occasion - Five Wines in Four Days: Pulled the cork on the bottle accessed by Coravin in June and August. Tasted over two days, alongside the same vintage Domaine de Chevalier.
This ranks among the more rustic (traditionally styled) 2018 Bordeaux offerings I have crossed paths with. With this in mind, I used it as a benchmark to gauge the DdC, which in two previous tastings came off as overblown.
The sense of place with this, given the vintage's opulence, stands out. Unmistakably Left Bank, and given the ripeness, if not Pauillac, then Saint-Julien. Blackcurrant and blackberry, with red fruit accents, violets, pepper garden, gravel, cut tobacco, black earth, and gravel.
The lean yet precise attack transitions to an expansive and notably gritty middle. Bright red fruits and berries, with plush tannins, envelop a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon-driven core. The grit, and grip, make a stronger appearance at the back and hold through a quality finish of considerable length.
Fuller and more rounded on the second day, a hallmark of substance. Indeed, everything as it should be. Judicious extraction and oak treatment. Low, at least by vintage standards, 13.5 abv. Balanced and seamless. Primary, and likely to evolve for at least another decade. I would not hesitate to hold bottles through 2035.

Fine example of varieties in place, particularly in this hot vintage. Noteworthy substance, structure, and balance. Likely to evolve and hold through 2030+. Very easy to like. 91-92.
