We opened this bottle with the highest of expectations, as we tasted this at the winery, and presumably really enjoyed it. Initial nose was .... somehow off. Hints of strawberry, but also quite off, almost oxidized.... Very acidic on the attack... with a bitter, vegetal note on the finish. Assumed it needed more time in the decanter, so walked away for an hour.... Second pass, slightly less off putting, but still very strong acidity, cranberry fruit, with a slight floral hint, but none of the smooth and delicate notes we expected from a Pinot Noir. I agree with previous reviewer, this might stand up fine when paired with food, but we really didn't enjoy it as an evening sipper. Perhaps an issue with storage (unlikely), or maybe variance in the bottle? Wouldn't buy this particular wine again.... and we love Gary Farrell! I've had so many great Gary Farrell Pinots! Hoping this is an outlier. For $80 a bottle expected a lot more.

From the Petaluma Gap AVA, on the cooler and lighter side due to geography. Pale ruby with a brownish hue in the glass. Distinct RRV cola on the nose, high acid on the palate.

Deep purple / garnet in color and definitely a spicy nose with baking spices and some savory spices (black pepper, cardamom) being the primary bouquet notes wirh little fruit to be found. The palate is a bit more fruit forward but darker fruit than some Pinots, more fig or plum and blueberry than strawberry or cherry. Some oaky character on the finish, cedar and vanilla. Good acidity to keep you coming back for more. Overall a very well balanced, very food friendly pinot, if just a bit thin in total.

A bit muted - minimal fruit up front. Very smooth. Hint of tart cranberry/pomegranate but light. Better suited with food than by itself. Just not my thing in a Pinot.
