Very old-fashioned, does not belie its long (30 - 36 months) élévage in older barrels, but by now some fruity, floral charm has emerged too; it is well-balanced, with good intensity and freshness, well-built, this is sturdy stuff (particularly in the context of 1997); nice length, cold tea, leaves the palate dry but perfumed. This has taken its time but it has turned out well, it is a good wine and I really like its very individual finesse. Now - 2017.

Very old-fashioned, powerful for a 1997 Volnay, some red berry fruit but rather dominated by the long élevage in old barrels and the slightly unripe tannins of grapes harvested rather early; good length, estery cherries. Hardly suave and charming but certainly long-lived and with a certain individual finesse.

(Giroud Camille Volnay Carelles) It’s a soft and red nose - despite the softness it seems tight, or at any rate a little muted. The palate is medium-bodied and shows a very nice mid-palate intensity. The tannin is grainy but not too astringent leaving us with a good finale. It’s a nice wine.

Very closed, minerals, herbs and a hint of rosehip; dry, tough tannins, seems hollow; okay length. Devoid of any charm. What is the point of this?
