  • The 2016 Stella di Campalto P. Contenitori takes a few minutes to start unwinding, but drinks rather well with 30 minutes of air (and better with 60). A mellow nose awaits, fine yet detailed, full of cherry, pipe tobacco, anise, and subtle notes of brown spices and flowers. There’s a delicate touch in the mouth; this isn’t loud at the outset but it is complete, building substantially over time, showing a far greater depth of frutti du bosco with 6 hours of air. This is labeled at 14.5% but it’s not really palpable and the tannins here are civilized already. This feels about 5 years from where it needs to be. The wait isn’t about drinkability, it’s about waiting for the fruit to fully unfurl. So, wait.

  • Stella di Compalto Tasting: Much denser compared to Sasso, hint of lavender, well layered palate yet drinking very easily now with lots of potential to age and blossom.
