  • Champers and Napa Cabs Blind - Fun Times! (Chateau Simms): I believe this wine received about a 2 hour Slo-O.

This was in a blind line up of some very prestigious 2019 Napa reds (and one 2016 thrown in), specifically:

    2019 MacDonald
2019 Kinsman Eades La Voleuse Du Chagrin
2019 Kinsman Eades Anjea Sleeping Lady Vineyard
    2019 Colgin Tychson Hill
    2019 Realm Absurd
    2019 Scarecrow
    2019 Harlan
    2019 Myriad Elysian
    2019 La Pelle Res
    2019 Magnificent 7
    2019 Cliff Lede Songbook
    2016 Colgin Tychson Hill

2019 La Pelle Reserve - Another example of varying palates. Others thought this a little sweet. I found it quite tight still and not showing much. Tannins were still grippy and while there was a nice dark fruit core and dark cocoa, this wine seemed like it needs a lot more time. Solid 95. I recommend holding for 5-7 years or giving a long decant (6 hours minimum).

  • Not sure what happened here, but blind, this came off with a bit of a candied fruit nose. Not quite Caymus or Myriad, but it was not what I typically see from La Pelle. Bottle variation?

  • Eyes Wide Shut - Day 2 (A quiet place): Nose: Sweet, ripe red fruits, and deep earth.

Palate: Also ripe on the palate, deep earth with a nice bitterness. There is a soul of dark minerals, giving the flavors a bit more depth.

It drank fine, but for some reason, this gave off the impression that it was a little lazy? As if, it could've given off a bit more. Could've benefited from more air for sure. With the initial ripeness that I detected, I am just truly thankful it did not have that manipulated feel/taste.

  • Beautiful wine. Wifey found it a bit dark which she doesn’t enjoy as much but very on point with Csimm and Cristal’s notes. Cassis popping with darker fruit and a real nice balance. Would love to hold on these but always hard to do

  • A few days in Napa with fellow CT'r Cristal2000: Surely the best of the bunch in terms of concentration and depth, the Reserve Cabernet offers that extra layer of density and breadth befitting a reserve designation. Powerful blackberry, black cherry, dark bitter chocolate, pencil lead, black salt, black earth, and tarry asphalt, it’s no surprise that the Reserve this vintage is stacked on the Coombsville side of the house, sharing much of its profile with its cooler marine-influenced SVD sibling. Less overt power than the Alluvium, the Reserve has an enhanced polish that permeates through the muscle and smooths out the otherwise decent flex on the delivery of showy flavors. A wine that’ll benefit from some time in bottle, but it’s pretty dang yummy right this instant. In 5-7+ years, this may likely inch its way to being a perfect wine. Target 2030, but there’s no way I’m waiting that long for my next bottle. Just sayin’… 98+ points.
