  • PNP. cork wet 90% up but seal intact. Color straw w greenish hue. nose i get mostly citrus and some pineapple hints. swishing this shows creamy acidity and almost integrated RS. the acidity coats the cheeks and gums. Sipping shows the RS that remains but it is almost completely esterified. this is an amazing example of almost completely mature riesling. time left in the tank too. those merkelbach bros know their spatlese. one of the most memorable rieslings that i have enjoyed in awhile

  • Pale, greenish. A touch of sulfur but not nearly as much as the last bottle which was undrinkable. All green apple on the nose and a crabapple jelly quality in the mouth. Very light and delicate. Prototypical Mosel. Just off dry and pleasingly tart, but softer than I expected and a drop off in flavor and depth toward the end. Good but unexciting.

  • The wine lived but the flavors were killed due to oversulfuring-dull with hard, dry finish. Hardly a triumph of vinification practices here.

  • Opened a bottle last weekend. 3rd time I have had this wine. This wine has changed quite a bit since the last time I had it in 2005. It is much less fruity and showing more secondary nuances. Some slight petrol and herbal qualities. Drinking well right now and in it's drinking window. I have 1 left and will wait a few more years to open it. 90 points.
