    [sue-PREM-us]

Location: Maremma, Colline Pisance, Colli Fiorentini and Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy

Neil and Maria Empson have always favored Tuscany as a winemaking region. After starting their own importing business for Italian wines, it was a natural step to bottle their own homage to Tuscany’s winemaking areas. Teaming up with friend and winemaker, Franco Bernabei, they crafted Supremus from some of the best vineyards sites in Tuscany.

    POINTS OF DIFFERENTIATION
    A cross-section of Tuscany’s best locations
Accessible early with an aim of being a food friendly wine
Fashioned by world-renown winemaker, Franco Bernabei
    A nearly 50-year pedigree
    THE HISTORY
Launched in 2009, this wine was over thirty years in the making. Its creators, Neil and Maria Empson, set up Neil Empson Selections in 1972 and subsequently founded several proprietary brands from various Italian regions. Tuscan wines have always been a favorite and for that reason, the Empson’s chose winemaker and close friend, Franco Bernabei, the Maestro of Tuscan reds to produce their wine.

The combined passion and experience of Neil Empson and Franco Bernabei epitomizes the harmony of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

    THE TERROIR
The grapes hail from a few of the region’s finest vineyard sites, in the areas of Maremma, Colline Pisane, Colli Fiorentini and Chianti Classico. The vines are over 40-years old, yielding small, highly concentrated crops. The wine itself is a top selection from the vinification of the three varieties. The blend is aged in barriques for 14 months, previous to a further six months in the bottle.

  • Bought a bottle recently then saw the 55 rating here. Felt compelled to give this some attention. Not a special wine, but by no means bad. It's an easy-drinking weekday red. Soft fruit, clean on the palate. Medium weight, decent finish. I'm not experiencing a bad aftertaste. Certainly overpaid at $29.99 (at a high-end store), but how many times can you hit the QPR lottery? $15-$17 is where I'd place it. 85 pts.
