Clean, earthy nose with medium plus intensity. Ripe cranberries and wild strawberries with some black raspberry preserves. Some pretty dark florality with a touch of fresh fennel bulb, damp earth and coniferous forest floor. The old oak here is a bit pronounced: toasted cinnamon stick, soft vanilla and milk chocolate.
Palate more or less confirms the nose with a nice herbal bitterness that keeps the wine from getting boring. Good tart fruit. Oak seems well-integrated on the palate. Med + tannin, med + acid, moderate complexity and moderate length.
Good variety characteristics here for @ $15 US. It’s missing some of the savory mushroom/earth and crushed rock notes that I love from more prestigious producers in the region, and the earthy pine notes can be a bit too much on both the nose and the palate. But overall this would work as an easy inexpensive way to change up the daily drinkers in between $15-$25.
