Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 89.5 points

  • Bottle was just ok for me. Wine was brownish-red in color. Nothing offensive in taste, just not as complex as I prefer. Tannins seemed light and finish was ok. Probably just a less preferred varietal for me.

  • Beautiful, evolving nose, evincing raspberry, blackcurrant, sour cherry, violet, asphalt, gummy bear, and deep and rich levels of mushroom and forest floor. The tannins are moderate, especially with a little air, and the acidity is pronounced and elegant. An earthy, complex beauty.

  • Decanted 2.5 Hours. Upon decanting beautiful Gardena nose w/plush velvet color. Initial pour provided fragrant heavy cherry nose. Legs were strong and flavor of softly tart cherries & red licorice was most pleasing. Great round balance finish. Went exceptional w/Caprese & truffles mortadella appetizer & entrée of Ribeye w/mushroom sauce.

  • Generally agree with prior notes. Decanted for an hour and followed.

Color is medium garnet. Nose had classic notes of tar, dark cherry, smoke, subtle herbs. Palate is medium bodied with firm structure. Firm acidity and a layer of tightly-wound tannins. Sour cherries, thyme, sage. Finish shows some darker cherries, neutral oak flavors, maybe some dark red florals.

Nice wine and opened up substantially on day 2. Probably still a bit firm drinking now, but a 3h decant should help. Maybe not meant for the deepest corner of the cellar, but this is a nice preview of the 2019 vintage (which I am led to believe is very strong).

Drink now with a 3h decant or hold for another 3-5 years. 90+ quality, look to 91-92 with time.
