Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • I bought this for fun from a West Texas liquor store for 5.99 based on enjoyment of the 01 Chardonnay from these guys. Opened this New Year's Eve just to see what it was like, and was actually shocked that it tasted like anything at all. The fruit was almost completely gone, leaving only a hint of green apple, but the oak framework of the wine was intact and very soft and integrated, tasting somewhat like a "good" version of an inexpensive, overoaked Chardonnay. Not the kind of thing I want to drink regularly but this was an interesting experience and well worth the 5.99. Kudos to Vina Tarapaca for making such sturdy wines; this had been standing upright in a small town West Texas liquor store for nearly ten years and the cork even came out in one piece. It's likely that I got the only good bottle of the twenty or so on the shelf; as dark as this was, and it looked like a TBA or somesuch in color, it was by far the lightest colored one on the shelf.
