While I have huge respect for the winemaker, this wine raised to me the following question: how much intervention is required to turn grape juice into actual wine? And for my palate, this unfortunately falls on the wrong side on that question. Interesting as a thought experiment only not as a wine IMHO. Will try future years to see if the approach changes. I also honestly don’t know how to apply a numeric rating to this bottle.

50/25/25 Pinot Noir/Gamay/Mondeuse, Gamay is carbonic. Medium plus nose shows funk, floral tones, light red fruits, cranberry, reduction, fresh earth, reminds me of Envinate wines. Palate matches with freshness, light forest or mulch, orange peel, black tea, dried cherry, has a little bit of a wild feel, natural wine esque. Very cool and unique, fun stuff.

Color: hazy medium ruby with blue and grey Nose: opens with a real big cola personality. It then refocuses on tons of pomegranate, dust and earth, oregano, rasp. Some blue fruit in the vicinity of blueberry. Rose stem right after you cut it. A nice pertichor note too Palate: light body here with a medium-high acidity and a tongue-tripping medium tannin that mellows with air. A certain pleasant bitterness. Aromatically it confirms the nose with some added violet petal and something in the vicinity of licorice root Finish: medium
This is quite quaffable, with a playful light body. At the same time it has real aromatic complexity and a lot of evolution with air, starting on clove and cola notes. I can see the Gamay and Pinot noir quite clearly in the aromas. Winemaking hand probably fairly light. Hard to say what age does to this, but I think six more months would not hurt to mellow out the green notes a bit and add some meat on the bone. Will circle back

Solidly glou and tasty. The three parts play off well with bright Pinot fruit, darker Mondeuse funk and the Gamay politlely being unobtrusive.

Very nice and consistent with previous tastes and expectations. Looking forward to exploring the new Phelan Farms range from Raj.
