The 2020 Vintage of this wine starts off with a distinctly lighter than average color for a Napa Cab. The nose displays some nice cedar and cigar notes. On the palate berry and plum fruits hit you like a freight train at full speed. A bit of chocolate on the finish. Not your traditional Napa wine. Perhaps a little over-engineered? Served with Sunday pot roast, I’d be consuming over the next 24 months.

For $15 this is not a bad showing for that $12-16 tier of California north coast cabernets. Just enough of what you're looking for to remind you it is cabernet although hard-pressed to distinguish blind between Sonoma or Lake County fruit. It is a blend, however, not straight cab even if the label is silent on this. I was concerned this would contain bulk juice from the 2020 fires but any faint smoke taint apparent is not enough to throw you off or make you think you're drinking smoky zin.

Like so many Cali wines in this price range, it's a new world fruit bomb. Just enough structure to separate it from Welches grape juice, but certainly not built to age. Fruit forward and a little too ripe and lacking complexity. I bought 3 of these, and I have 2 left. I don't regret buying them, but on the other hand, I'm not rushing back to buy more. Lots of similar wines out there around the same price. J. Lohr, etc...
