  Chappellet's 2020 Calesa Vineyard Chardonnay is a light golden wine that offers aromas of baked apple pie, orange zest, pineapple, jasmine and honey. Medium-bodied, low-to-medium in acidity and without obtrusive alcohol (listed as 14.2%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding a significant component of spicy oak. Dense on the mid-palate, it moves on to a lengthy finish that is dominated by vanilla and wood. This Chardonnay will have many fans who favor New World versions of the grape. For me, a bit more acid and a lighter hand with the oak would have resulted in a more attractive wine. Tasted from a bottle that was popped, poured and serially sampled over two hours, it was immediately expressive and stable throughout the tasting interval. Drink now-2028.
