Red berries, red cherry, earth spices and bit of oak/vanilla on the nose. Medium bodied (13.5% ABV) and needed between 2-3 hours open to show its best. Not surprising as this is a young wine from a vineyard site that rewards cellar time. Mostly red fruits upfront with red cherry and red berries showing a good amount of openness and roundness. Mid-body adds depth and some darker red cherry notes. It seemed lighter initially, but the longer it was open, the more it came together, seemingly adding density by the hour. Tannins on the back side are fine grained and in balance with the fruit while the acidity gives a nice spark of contrast, but isn't anywhere near as noticeable as in the 2019. Lighter and brighter strawberry, tart red cherry and a touch of cranberry on the back with mineral and a touch of vanilla through the finish. Around 2-3 hours open, I thought the wine was showing well, but by 4 hours open, it was quite impressive which bodes well for the future. The structure isn't as overt as it is in the 2018 or 2019, but based on the amount of time it needed open to fully come together, this wine has significant upside. I'll try to wait until Q1 2025 for my next bottle, but it may end up being November 2024 and this wine my well score higher at that time.

Very reductive in the nose at first. After 1h decant it opened eased off a bit. Sour cherries on the nose and palate. A lot of oaky vanilla but this may have been due to the food pairing (creamy game sauce with reindeer). Not super impressed by this one but have had nice ones in other vintages so will let lie for a few years.

Gavin Chanin Masterclass (Stannary Wine Company, London SE11): Forest floor and red fruits on the nose. Medium bodied with finely grained silky tannins leading the way to a midpalate where there is good lift and energy which is on the strawberry and raspberry fruit. Well balanced and should cellar well. From Zalto Burgundy.

Less sweet than the Santa Rita, more oaky and serious. Not obviously better but slightly bigger. Not worth twice the price. Long finish, darker fruit
