I’m a big fan of Aaron’s wines and based on his own messaging and the reviews here, I had lower expectations for this and opened my first bottle earlier than I would normally open any of his wines.
I was happily surprised that, for me, this was much more in line with what I expect of his wines. They need to open and when they do they are delicious, layered and present a lingering finish. Maybe the fruit wasn’t quite as opulent but if you have these I think you will enjoy them.
After a 45 minute decant the wine was solid if pretty linear and straight forward. After a few hours decanted it was singing and my wife was commenting how good it was.
Give it some time or a lengthy decant and you will be rewarded!

I was really disappointed with this bottle beyond the smoke discussion; it was dull, medium bodied with some fruit and spice but no depth; nothing like a CDP, more like a cote du Rhône frankly. And not at the level of other Pott wines.

With regard to the notes I read on smoke....... I must say that it takes one to know one. Smoke notes alongside other notes of non smoke tainted wines are so simillar. I love Aaron and his wines but that said I believe I get smoke taint in this wine. Wth that I love this wine. It has unique flavors and frankly notes that challenge me, that rise to "Worthy" of these type of discussions on wine notes. I think the purest form of wine is flavor expression from any source of origin.
